Web Resources

last updated 10/2/99

Pages for Organizations

ABCs of MPD and More --information from the Sweet Hollow Counseling Center in Melville, NY, including articles and a question of the month.

Adult Survivors of Child Abuse --an organization in San Francisco whose mission is "to support people in their desires and efforts to cultivate their human spirit and to provide innovative recovery options for adult survivors of childhood abuse." They provide a web newsletter, sell a workbook, and run a support group program in California.

African Society for the Study of Dissociative Identities and Ritual Abuse

Anonymous Sexual Abuse Recovery (Canada)--includes support forums and an extensive library of articles.

Canadian Traumatic Stress Network --an organization for professionals that may be a useful source of Canadian resources and links.

The Center: Posttraumatic and Dissociative Disorders Program --Joan Turkus and Barry Cohen are on the staff of this clinic in Washington DC.

The Colin A. Ross Institute (includes The Dissociative Experiences Scale)--be aware that some people have felt betrayed to discover that Colin Ross is a member of the False Memory Syndrome Foundation. He has apparently said he does not agree with FMSF but he believes it is better to try to understand them rather than to isolate them. However, I find very disturbing his skeptical approach to memories in a description of his book on Ritual Abuse (this link does have a very informative bibliography if you want to read more about SRA). The Ross Institute has programs at two hospitals, in Dallas, Texas, and Grand Rapids, Michigan.

EMDR Institute --information on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy for trauma survivors. Be careful--some survivors have been very pleased with how this therapy works but it is popular partly because it promises to be a quick fix. Therapists need special training before they try it with multiples.

The Healing Woman --this paper newsletter for women survivors of sexual abuse now has a web page with selected articles, resources, and subscription information.

Incest Survivors Anonymous (how to contact this organization, which sponsors 12 step style groups)

Incest Survivors Resource Network International--includes links for male survivors and links to groups outside North America

The International Society for the Study of Dissociation --This major professional society provides some information resources useful to people with dissociative disorders on their web page, including Guidelines for Treating Dissociative Identity Disorder.

National Organization on Male Sexual Victimization --an organization of male survivors

McLean Hospital Dissociative Disorders and Trauma Program --Belmont, MA

Mental Health Net Guides to web resources on Abuse and Dissociation

People Against Sexual Abuse, Inc. --an organization in New York City that provides training for professionals and youth on sexual abuse prevention.

Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network --U.S. telephone number for help 24 hours a day.

Rainbow House --this was a community center for multiples. The house shut down and the web site was off the air for awhile, but it is back on. There is some good introductory material here about MPD.

River Oaks Hospital, New Orleans --This hospital has a specialized Masters and Johnson program for treatment of trauma that draws people from all over the country. From what I have heard (someone reporting on their experience in 1998) this is a good place to go to do intense work in a safe setting.

Sidran Foundation Online --articles and books on DID and Trauma. Probably the most reliable sources of information around.

The Survivor's Foundation --provides recovery assistance to people who were abused or neglected as children. They offer grants both to individual survivors to pay for therapy and to nonprofit organizations for new programs.

Survivorship home page --"An International Forum on Survival of Ritual Abuse, Torture Mind Control"

The Trauma Dissociation Study Group of Southeast Michigan--somewhat oriented towards professionals but includes some useful information such as An Open Letter to Health Care Professionals giving suggestions on how to make medical exams more bearable for people with DID.

Two Rivers Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri--includes a Masters and Johnson Trauma Program, with a special program for dissociative disorders.

Women's Institute for Incorporation Therapy, Ft. Pierce, Florida--promotes an alternative approach to therapy for DID and dissociation, stressing feelings rather than ideas and putting more emphasis on living in the present and less emphasis on recovery of memories. This is not mainstream.
