What Is Your Supportive Style?

June 29, 2020 Nicola Spendlove

My family members each have a different supportive style when it comes to my brother's mental illness. In the early days of his depression and anxiety diagnosis, we used to judge each other for these differences -- each of us believed that our approach was the best one. I am looking at supportive styles differently, now.

My Supportive Style

Six years later, we know that each of our supportive styles has a valuable place in my brother's care. I very much recognize that we are privileged to have a number of different people in the family to support my brother -- in some situations, the circle of support is much smaller. In these situations, individuals might find themselves having to take on all the supportive styles -- which can be very challenging, to say the least.

Here's a video with a bit more information about my story -- I'd love to hear about yours in the comments.
