Mental Illness Awareness Week
Mental Illness Awareness Week runs through October 13. On the HealthyPlace mental health website and across our social networks, we'll be doing special events daily to address important issues associated with mental illness. Yes, we'll be trying to educate the public about mental illness, but we're also focusing on topics that are central to living and coping with a mental health condition.
On our Facebook and Twitter pages, we have our "Question of the Day" which deals with, sometimes, difficult topics like self-medication or loneliness. We also share our successes, so you can walk away with tips that might be helpful to you. We invite you to participate by commenting and sharing your feelings, experiences and knowledge.
Of course, our outstanding team of mental health bloggers will be producing relevant articles and videos.

Understanding Fear, Anxiety, and Panic on HealthyPlace Radio
Jeff Wise is a science writer and author of the book, Extreme Fear: The Science of Your Mind in Danger. He says forget the simplistic "fight or flight model" of anxiety. According to Mr. Wise, when you really understand the basis of fear, then you can better cope with anxiety and panic. Listen to our interview on the HealthyPlace Mental Health Radio Show.
