Practice Patience Where You Are

HealthyPlace Mental Health Newsletter

Here's what's happening on the HealthyPlace site this week:

Being patient isn’t easy, especially when you have a mental illness. Learn some tips to practice patience right now and improve your wellbeing at HealthyPlace

Practice Patience Where You Are

Practice patience where you are, right now to feel better mentally and physically. It seems as though impatience has become society's dominant character trait. We want things, and we want them now. Regarding mental health, we want treatments such as therapy or medication to work immediately. We want problems to be solved instantly. (Being a Mental Health Patient Requires Patience)

Impatience, though, makes existing mental health problems worse, and it can cause some of its own. It increases stress, which negatively affects physical and emotional wellbeing. Practice patience where you are to enhance your wellbeing.

Being patient isn't always easy. These tips can help:

  • When you have to wait for someone or something, use the time to breathe slowly and deeply. It calms both body and mind and slows impatient thoughts.
  • Connect to the present moment. What are you doing right now? What do your senses notice? This enhances patience by keeping your focus on what matters now.
  • Know your values. What do you want your life to be like? How do you want to be? A sense of purpose makes you more willing to be patient as you work toward the big picture.

You can practice patience, and improve your wellbeing, right where you are, starting now.
