What Makes Your Soul Smile?
Happiness resides not in possessions, and not in gold, happiness dwells in the soul~Democritus
The Soul, Revealed
On the backdrop of the scenic Lake Louise, I want to share a reflection about the "soul."
What is the "soul?"
This question is not about religion. It is about discovering the depths of who you are beyond what you can physically see. This is an age old question that still mystifies us today. Greek philosopher, Aristotle defined it as the psyche and Plato believed it was how we controlled our behavior. Contemporary thinkers offer variations of the same which tend to return to the essence of a person. For example:
Eckhart Tolle offered:
The soul is your innermost being. The presence that you are beyond form. The consciousness that you are beyond form, that is the soul. That is who you are in essence.
Marianne Williamson shared:
The soul is the truth of who we are. The light, the love which is within us goes by different names, but the truth of us. Michelangelo said when he got a statue that he would go to the quarry and get a big piece of marble and the way he imagined it, God had already created the statue and his job was just to get rid of the excess marble. So that's what we're like. Inside is the being that God has already created. Some call it the Christ, the Buddha mind, the Shekinah, the light, the soul. And our job is to get rid of this excess, useless fear, thought forms of the world that actually hide the light of the soul.
I'm going with the notion that the soul is the immortal essence of a person. It is the embodiment of your conscience and emotions. It is an enduring part you. It is up to you to liberate your soul and let the light shine on the path that leads to a magnified emotional state of joy, personal fulfillment and happiness.
